Physicians All of our physicians are specialty trained in Infertility and Reproductive Hormones. Drs. Schlaff, Alvero, McShane, and Murray are board certified both in Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Subspecialty of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Meacham is board certified in urology and has specialty training in male infertility. Our medical staff includes the following physicians: William Schlaff, M.D.
Dr. Schlaff earned his Bachelor's degree from Yale University and earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. Prior to coming to the University of Colorado Hospital in 1989, he was a faculty member at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Schlaff received his formal fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His expertise is in the areas of reproductive disorders including infertility, pregnancy loss, endometriosis, and menopause. Dr. Schlaff is the Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of Colorado. He is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and the subspecialty of Reproductive Endocrinology Infertility. Dr. Schlaff is the Vice Chairman for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. [ back to top ] Ruben Alvero, M.D. Dr. Alvero completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard University and received his medical degree from the F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Walter Reed Medical Center and his fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. Subsequently, Dr. Alvero is Division Director of the Infertility services at Walter Reed Army Mecial Centrer and National Naval Medical Center. Dr. Alvera joined the faculty at the University of Colorado in 2002. Dr. Alvero's clinical interests include infertility, polycystic ovary disease (PCOS), endometriosis, and reproductive surgery. Dr. Alvero is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Alvero is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He is a diplomate of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons. He is chairman of the Residency Education Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and actively publishes in many areas of reproductive endocrinology. He recently co-edited a textbook entitled 'Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility: The Requisites' along with Dr. Schlaff. In his free time, Dr Alvero enjoys rowing, biking and classical guitar.[ back to top ] Patricia McShane, M.D. Patricia McShane, M.D. received her MD degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1997, pursued an Ob-Gyn residency and fertility and endocrine fellowship at Boston Hospital for Women and Brigham and Women's Hospital from 1977 to 1983. She assumed directorship of the In Vitro Fertilization Program at Brigham and Women's in 1984 and was on the Harvard Medical School Faculty as an Instructor and Assistant Professor of Ob-Gyn . She moved to the Reproductive Science Center of Boston in 1988 where she was the Medical Director until December 2006. She joined the faculty at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center, Section of Advanced Reproductive Medicine as an Assistant Professor in July, 2007. She consults, writes and lectures extensively on subjects of assisted reproduction and menopause. Dr. McShane has been a member of many professional organizations; she has served as Chair of the Women's Council of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine and as President of the New England Fertility Society. She enjoys cultural activities and biking, hiking and skiing in her free time. [ back to top ] Shona C. Murray, M.D. [ back to top ] Randall Meacham, M.D. Dr. Meacham obtained his Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. His residency training at Baylor was in general surgery and urology. He then completed subspeciality training in male infertility and urology. Dr. Meacham is the Chairman of the Department of Urology. [ back to top ] Nanette Santoro, M.D. Dr. Nanette Santoro has been an active clinician and researcher in Reproductive Endocrinology since 1986. She has directed the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology at 2 medical schools: New Jersey Medical School and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, both of which provided full-service care for women with reproductive problems of all kinds. At New Jersey Medical School, Dr. Santoro directed one of the nation's first oocyte donation programs. She is the author of over 120 scientific publications and two books. Dr. Santoro's major research interests include the reproductive endocrinology of premature, peri-, and postmenopause, infertility, and the physiology of gonadotropin-releasing hormone secretion. She has been involved with numerous industry- and government-supported clinical trials, including the Study of Women's Health Across the Nation (SWAN, PI of the New Jersey site from 2004-2010), the Kronos Early Estrogen Prevention Study (KEEPS; PI of he Montefiore site), the MS-HIV Study (co-PI with Ellie Schoenbaum, MD) and the Reproductive Physiology of Ovarian Failure (PI), and is a co-editor of the Textbook of Perimenopausal Gynecology and the upcoming textbook Amenorrhea: A Clinician's Guide. She has also held a K24 grant, Establishment of Regular Ovulation in Normal Menarche, for the past 9 years. [ back to top ] Alex J. Polotsky, M.D. Dr. Polotsky completed his undergraduate studies at University of Maryland and received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York Presbyterian Hospital -Cornell Medical Center and his fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Subsequently, Dr. Polotsky has earned Master's of Science degree in Clinical Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His thesis explored the links between the adolescent obesity and reduced lifetime fertility. Dr. Polotsky joined the faculty at the University of Colorado in 2010. Dr. Polotsky's clinical interests include infertility, assisted reproductive technologies, obesity and its influence of fertility, amenorrhea, adolescent gynecology, and endometrial disorders. Dr. Polotsky is fluent in Russian. Dr. Polotsky is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He is a diplomate of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He actively publishes in many areas of reproductive endocrinology. He recently co-authored a chapter entitled 'Nutrition and the Pubertal Transition' for the Yen and Jaffe's Reproductive Endocrinology, one of the most recommended books in the field, along with Dr. Santoro. In his free time, Dr. Polotsky enjoys skiing, biking and hiking with his wife and 5 children. |
