Pregnancy tests are performed approximately 14 days after the oocyte retrieval. Blood must be drawn between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. to have the results back the same day. Pregnancy test results are reported as:

1. Positive (>40 mIU/ml)
2. Borderline (2-39 mIU/ml)
3. Negative (<2 mIU/ml)

With a positive result you will be asked to repeat the pregnancy blood test in approximately 2 days then again in 1 week. An ultrasound to confirm pregnancy number and location will be performed approximately 1½ to 2 weeks after the first blood test. Please continue the progesterone medication.

With a borderline result you will be asked to repeat the pregnancy test in 2 days. 50% of borderline results will end in miscarriage or an abnormal pregnancy. Continued care will depend on the blood results.

With a negative result you will discontinue the progesterone and schedule a follow up visit with your primary doctor. Also, a free counseling visit is available for those who need it.
